The Memorandum of Understanding

Signed, on 31/12/2021, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Extraordinary Commissioner for Reconstruction in the territories affected by the 2016 earthquake, the coordinator of the Technical Structure of Mission established at the Presidency of the Council, the UNIVERSITIES and the Institutions with main or decentralized offices in the earthquake area.

The parties, including the Alto Lazio Science and Technology Park, are committed to the creation and/or implementation of four Research Centers, which will form the Innovation and Research Network for the area since the 2009 and 2016 Earthquakes.

The center located Lazio earthquake area, called the Research Center for Innovation on Circular Economy and Health, will be active in the following research areas:

  1. Health, wellness, and precision medicine;
  2. Sustainable agribusiness supply chain, with particular reference to the use and reuse of waste materials
    agribusiness
  3. Bioeconomy and circular bioindustry, with special reference to the characterization and production of natural substances and the recovery and reuse of industrial processing wastes
  4. sustainable development of inland areas
  5. energy and sustainable mobility
  6. construction and demolition waste.

The entities in charge of the Center (University of Rome “La Sapienza,” University of Tuscia and Science and Technology Park of Upper Lazio) must, when implementing the research projects, activate collaborations and partnerships on the issues of competence, with priority given to the network of centers of the earthquake, also according to a HUB and Spoke model in accordance with the MUR Guidelines for system initiatives of Mission 4 Component 2 of the PNRR; the maximum amount provided for the Intervention is 14,250,000 euros.
